GOOD GOVERNANCE INDEX
  • GGI was released by the Government on 25th December which is also celebrated as Good Governance Day.
  • Good governance index (GGI) is a tool to help assess the status of governance in the country.
  • The index has been formed by dividing states into 3 different categories. 
  • The three categories are Big states, North east & Hill states and Union territories. 
  • Kerala has topped in the big states category, Himachal Pradesh has topped in North east & Hill states and Pondicherry has topped in Union Territories.

  • The objectives of GGI are:
  1. To provide data to compare the state of governance in all states and UTs.
  2. To enable state/UT to formulate suitable strategies for improving governance.
  3. To shift to result-oriented approaches and hence improve the standard of administration in the respective state/UT.
